The brief for this project was to design a 'Place of Belonging,' a space where community members can connect in ways that are both socially and environmentally meaningful. The design incorporates an open-air performance center, a ceremonial space, and a shared market, seamlessly blending indoor, outdoor, and transitional spaces.
Grounded in extensive site analysis and historical research, the project draws heavily on the site’s rich history while honoring the culture and traditions of the Kaurna people.
The final form is inspired by the tents constructed by early campers along the River Torrens during the Great Depression of the late 1920s. This design pays homage to the site's layered history and those who lived there before us, creating a space that fosters connection, and a comfortable, inviting atmosphere.
