This project focused on designing a storage facility and cultural meeting place for the Warlpiri people of Yuendumu, NT. The design aims to emphasise their values and the repatriation of artifacts, including the renowned Yuendumu Doors. Located in a remote area, the project utilized predominantly prefabricated materials, with a protective superstructure to withstand Yuendumu's challenging weather conditions.
The concepts of connection and community were central to the design, reflected in the layout of the two main buildings, which evoke the shape of cupped hands. This symbolises the safeguarding and embracing of the space, where occupants are encouraged to yarn, perform, learn, and observe.
The final proposal is presented through detailed construction documentation drawings and supporting graphic materials, capturing the essence and practicality of the design.
