This project centers on designing a Writer's Centre to support Adelaide's annual Writers' Week and other literary events. It also serves as a retreat space for writers seeking inspiration and solitude. Named after renowned Australian author Sally Hepworth, the design draws inspiration from her emphasis on fostering connection and building engaged communities.
The multi-level building is thoughtfully designed to welcome and inspire. At its heart is a ground-level community garden, inviting passersby and visitors to connect and linger. As one moves upward, the spaces gradually transition into more private and intimate environments, catering to writers' varying needs. The building features a main hall for gatherings, a library lounge for reflection, dedicated writers' study areas, and private sleeping quarters for retreating into focused creativity.
This Writer's Centre embodies the essence of Hepworth's vision, merging communal interaction with personal sanctuary to celebrate the art of storytelling.
